The Level 3 First Aid at Work Refresher (FAWR) course is designed to update and refresh the skills and knowledge of individuals who hold a valid in-date* First Aid at Work certificate. This course ensures that first aiders remain competent and current with the latest techniques and guidelines for providing first aid in the workplace.
Participants review key first aid topics including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs), managing injuries such as bleeding, burns, and fractures, and responding to medical emergencies like choking and unconsciousness. This requalification course also covers any changes or updates in first aid protocols and regulations.
Upon successful completion, participants receive a renewed First Aid at Work certificate, extending their qualification for another three years and affirming their continued readiness to provide essential first aid assistance in the workplace.
Who should attend:
Personnel with a current FAW qualification can attend this two day requalification in order to gain a fully renewed First Aid at Work certificate valid for three years
*Rules concerning First Aid at Work Requalification
Learners must hold a valid in-date First Aid certificate in order to be accepted on to a requalification course.
The expiry date on a previous First Aid at Work certificate must not exceed one month otherwise a three day FAW course would need to be undertaken to regain a new certificate.
Learners must provide evidence in advance of acceptance onto a course by scanning and emailing their current certificate to Opex HSE Services

- Understand the role and responsibilities of a first aider
- Be able to assess an emergency situation safely
- Be able to provide first aid to an unresponsive casualty
- Be able to provide first aid to a casualty who is choking
- Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with external bleeding
- Know how to provide first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock
- Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with minor injuries
- Be able to conduct a secondary survey
- Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected injuries to bones, muscles and joints
- Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected head and spinal injuries
- Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected chest injuries
- Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with burns and scalds
- Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with an eye injury
- Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected poisoning
- Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with anaphylaxis
- Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected major illness
