Competent Person

The Management of Health and safety regulations 1999 (regulation 7) explain that companies must appoint a competent person or people in order to help them meet their health and safety legal duties. This can be internally or externally. As most companies don’t has the resource to employ a full time H&S person OPEX HSE services can assist with this duty.

A competent person in health and safety is someone, either an internal employee or an external advisor, who is sufficiently trained and has the level of knowledge and experience necessary to assist you. The level of competence needed depends on the type and complexity of the help you need.

SSIP schemes such as CHAS, Safe contractor, acclaim etc require companies to have access to competent H&S resource. This resource can be undertaken as part of the competent person retainer by OPEX HSE services LTD.
