The New CDM Regulations came into play on 6th April 2015. The introduction of Principal Designer role has put a focus on safety in design as well as construction. Irrespective of the size of project there is no threshold for the implementation of CDM 2015 and it applies to ALL construction projects including domestic works.
The CDM Regulations place duties on all parties who contribute to the health and safety of a construction project. Clients, designers, Principal Designers, Principal Contractors, Contractors and the self-employed all have duties under the Regulations.

Does CDM 2015 apply to all construction work?
Yes, The regulations apply to all clients of construction projects irrespective of size and duration. This also includes domestic works although the duty of the domestic client can be passed to others in the construction process.
What is the definition of construction work under CDM 2015?
If the task in hand looks like construction work, requires construction skills and uses construction materials, it is construction work. This includes the construction, alteration, conversion, fitting out, commissioning, renovation, repair, upkeep, redecoration or other maintenance (including cleaning which involves the use of water or an abrasive at high pressure, or the use of corrosive or toxic substances), decommissioning, demolition or dismantling of a structure.
